Maha Visuba Sankaranti or Pana Sankranti or Theki Basa Sankranti marked the new years day of Odisha state. Maha Visuva Sankranti is the first day of the month of 'Baisakh' as well as the solar year. In Odisha it is known as "Pana Sankranti",
Pana Sankranti named after 'Pana', the main drink offering specially prepared on this occasion. Below is complete process for preparing of "CHHATUA" or "SATTU".
Ingredients:
Wheat (Gahama)
Green Gram (Muga)
Plain Raw Rice (Arua Chaula)
Almond (Badam)
Bengal Gram (Chana/Sola) **Need to be verified.
Grated Coconut
Ripe banana
Chenna
Jaggery (Guda)
Yogurt/Curd (Dahi) [You can use Milk instead of Curd]
Small Sugarcane pieces, Other fruit pieces
Grated Ginger, and other Masalas for better taste and fragrance.
Preparation:
One by one roast Wheat, Green Gram, Plain Raw Rice, Almond, Bengal Gram. Like roast, grind roasted grains separately.
Now the main Chatua Powder is ready. Now mix them in a clean bowl. Add Curd or Milk, Jaggery, Grated Coconut, Chenna, Ripe Banana and mix well by the help of your hand.
Now add fruit pieces, Small Sugarcane pieces, Grated Ginger, and other Masalas. Now your Pana Sankranti Special "CHATUA" is ready to serve. Remember, offer to Tulasi Plant of your house before serve.
