Government of Odisha has renamed Wheeler Island after former President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam to Abdul Kalam Island. It was announced by Naveen Patnaik on Friday.
The Wheeler Island which houses the Integrated Test Range is located at Chandipur off the Odisha Coast. It is the prime missile testing facility of India. All missiles, including Agni, Prithvi, BrahMos, Akash, Prahaar, Shaurya, Trishul etc. are being tested from here.
